Geometric Imagery (2022 – ongoing)
The Geometric Imagery series comprises works inspired by the restored mosaics of the Episcopal Basilica in Plovdiv. After studying their geometric motifs, Kostova began creating her own compositions, exploring ideas of rhythm, structure, and ornamentation. During the creative process, elements from Bulgarian folk patterns and architectural ornaments were incorporated into these compositions. Her interest in places where different cultures have coexisted over the centuries led the artist to seek visual universality by combining diverse motifs. This approach resulted in new compositions — geometric landscapes where various historical and cultural layers converge into a single image. The series includes wall-mounted painted objects constructed from precisely cut lines. The contours define forms that are filled with both intense and pastel colors, serving as carriers of personal memory and cultural identity.
