In her first solo exhibition at Galerie Kaufmann in Hamburg, Ana Kostova presents a spatial, painterly installation that transforms the exhibition space into a three-dimensional artwork. Inspired by geometric forms and patterns from various cultures, Kostova creates abstract compositions that build a visual bridge between form, history, and time. Painterly wall objects and sculptures merge into a harmonious overall composition.
The intense, high-contrast wall painting alters the space by integrating the artist’s works and uniquely merging them with the architecture. A key work within this installation is Paravent, which stands out through its cut-out shapes. These allow the colored layers to overlap depending on the viewer’s perspective. As one moves through the space, ever-changing visual impressions and combinations continuously emerge.
To accompany the exhibition, Ana Kostova’s first catalogue: The Space of Color has been published. It encompasses both the exhibition itself and a large selection of her works from recent years. The catalogue was edited by Lucia Kaufmann and published by Hirmer Verlag.
